Who we are
The service is operated by Agarwals AI. This policy covers the Agarwals company website at agarwals.ai and www.agarwals.ai, the Gajan product website at gajan.ai and www.gajan.ai, the Gajan learner app at app.gajan.ai, including access through its previous address app.agarwals.ai, and Gajan inside AI assistants you connect it to. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Agarwals AI.
For any question or request about your personal data, write to hello@agarwals.ai.
Who the service is for
The Gajan learner app is for adults (18 and over) preparing for competitive exams in India. Our public websites describe Agarwals, Gajan and our work in education.
What we collect and why
Your mobile number
We use your mobile number to create your account and to sign you in.
WhatsApp sign-in messages
You can sign in by sending a message to our WhatsApp Business number, +91 90199 17201 (“Agarwals AI”). Your message proves the number is yours. We reply to confirm the sign-in, naming the device and the time. If it was not you, reply NO and every device signed in with your number is signed out.
For each of these messages we record the message id, the sender’s number and the delivery status. We do not use them for marketing.
Your device and IP address at sign-in
When you sign in we note a description of your device and browser, and your IP address. We use these to name the device in the confirmation message and to limit abuse, for example by rate-limiting repeated attempts.
The profile you give us
Your name, your education stage and, if you choose, your institution and fields of study; the exams you register for; your target attempt; when you are available to study; and answers to questions specific to your exam. We use these to set up your preparation and plans.
Your learning activity
Your answers; how long you spend and how you work through questions (for example, time spent and changed answers); your results; our estimates of your progress; the plans and feedback the app generates for you; and reflections you write. This is what the service runs on: it is how we track your progress and decide what to practise next.
Advertising
When you come to us from one of our ads, we note which ad it was, so we know which ads work.
The Agarwals and Gajan public websites use Google Analytics to measure public page visits and signup-link clicks. Advertising storage, advertising user data and ad personalisation are disabled on these websites. They do not load Meta’s advertising pixel.
Campaign parameters may travel with links between our company website, product website and learner app so we can understand which visit led to a signup. The learner app manages its own advertising choices; moving between domains does not grant advertising consent.
How we use AI
Parts of your learning activity are sent to Anthropic (the maker of Claude), through our own service, to generate your plans and feedback. We use Anthropic’s commercial API. Anthropic’s commercial terms state that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models.
Connected assistants
You can connect Gajan to an AI assistant such as ChatGPT (by OpenAI) or Claude (by Anthropic) and practise in a conversation there. You sign in on our own page, not in the assistant; the assistant never sees your mobile number or sign-in code.
What the assistant receives
While Gajan is connected, the assistant receives what it needs to run your practice in the conversation:
- your Train your Gajan answers;
- Gajan’s practice sets;
- each question and its options;
- the answers you give;
- our explanation, and a past-paper question’s source, only after you answer;
- a set’s results (the number you got right); and
- how a set felt to you.
When you ask the assistant to go over a finished set with you, it also receives:
- the questions you got wrong or skipped in that set, with your answers, the right answers and our explanations;
- which parts of the topic your mistakes fell on; and
- what Gajan has noted about you on those topics, as shown on Gajan’s memory page (for example, a topic you find hard).
It does not receive your mobile number, your name or the rest of your profile.
The assistant’s own privacy policy
What you share in a connected assistant, including what we send it for your practice, passes through the company that runs that assistant. That company handles it under its own privacy policy and your settings with it: see OpenAI’s privacy policy and Anthropic’s privacy policy.
Your progress
Answers you give in a connected assistant count toward your progress, and we record them as coming from that assistant. They are not used for the questions’ statistics. A question the assistant goes over with you is recorded as help, as an explanation you open in the app is, so a later right answer to it is not counted as one you managed alone.
Staying connected and disconnecting
A connection stays signed in like a device: it lapses after 30 days without use, and after 90 days at most. You can disconnect at any time from Settings › Connected apps in the Gajan app, or in the assistant’s own settings. Replying NO to our WhatsApp sign-in message signs out every device and connection.
Who processes data for us
We use these service providers to run the service. They process data on our behalf and for these purposes only:
- Meta Platforms — the WhatsApp Business Platform, which carries sign-in messages; consent-based advertising measurement in the learner app.
- Render — hosting for the production application and its database in Singapore.
- Vercel — hosting for this website.
- Google — Google Analytics, and Google Ads if you allow advertising cookies.
- Mixpanel — product analytics.
- Anthropic — the AI features described above.
- Google Workspace — our email.
When you connect Gajan to an AI assistant, the company that runs it is a recipient you direct, not a service provider of ours: it receives your practice because you ask us to share it there, and it handles that data under its own policy, even where the same company also provides services to us, as Anthropic does for the AI features above (see Connected assistants).
Our production application and database are hosted in Singapore. Our service providers may process data in other countries, including the United States, as needed to provide their services.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell personal data, and we never share your profile or learning data for advertising.
How long we keep data
- Sign-in attempt records and WhatsApp message records are deleted after 30 days.
- A note of which ad brought you is deleted after 30 days, unless you sign up.
- Your account, profile and learning data are kept while your account is active.
- When you ask us to delete your data, we delete it within 30 days of verifying the request, except for anything the law requires us to keep.
Your rights
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a summary of it;
- ask us to correct or complete it;
- ask us to erase it;
- withdraw your consent;
- raise a grievance with us; and
- nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to.
To use any of these rights, email hello@agarwals.ai from, or about, the mobile number on your account. We may confirm the request by WhatsApp to that number. We respond within 30 days.
Deleting your data
- Email hello@agarwals.ai with the mobile number on your account and the words “Delete my data”.
- We send a WhatsApp message to that number to confirm the request came from you.
- Once confirmed, we delete your account, profile and learning data within 30 days, including what our analytics tools hold about your account.
Sign-in records age out on their own within 30 days.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data. Messages that reach us from WhatsApp are signed and checked before we act on them; sign-in secrets are stored hashed, not in plain form; and access to production data is limited to the people who operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, and if something goes wrong we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is material, we will also tell you in the app.
